un peu de réflexion

so i started following a blog called le belle oiselle by a girl named julia, who also runs an etsy. since yesterday i've looked through her posts since she started (as i do with most blogs that i really dig) and i've been inspired. it may be due to the fact that i'm sick of having a laundry basket full of clothes that i've nixed from the day's outfit/not wanted to put away yet, and feeling a little cramped, and also having little money right now, but i've come upon a feeling that i want to make a change. i'll get to that later.

julia's outfit posts, which make up her blog, are memorizing. the pictures are so interesting to look at and the outfits are simple and effortless. and i'd say 95% thrifted! the thought behind her outfits makes me want to try a little harder. she's also a pretty witty gal...there's something in her tone that i enjoy.  she seems honest and doesn't pretend to be perfect or peppy or anything. anyways, on to the change:

i'd like to go for a decent amount of time only buying thrifted clothes for myself. i'll say at least a year. save for undies, bras, socks and stockings. unless they're unopened packages ;)

i'm not someone who buys clothes constantly, but i'll pick up a few things once in a while (and usually it's things i can wear a bunch of ways so it seems more worth it). of course, my main focus right now is thrifting vintage for my etsy shop, but i feel like my own vintage wardrobe is lacking. i have mostly new things at the moment, which is a little sad. i used to wear so much more thrifted clothing! i guess i sort of lost track. it is easier just to go to f21 and pick up cheap basics or a vintage style dress, or ANYTHING YOUR HEART DESIRES, but there is no thought behind it, no history, and no sense. it's too easy and it doesn't mean anything to me. Hundreds of other girls have found the same thing.

julia also did an 80% clothes purge a little while back, and i'm kinda feelin' that. i'm waiting on a downstairs room in our house to open up (love ya, brad!) so we can make a little studio and in so doing, i can use my bedroom only for living and not for working. but in the meantime, i feel kinda cramped and messy. it makes me want to sell all my things and go live in the woods, sometimes. that's another story.

i have no idea what's going to happen in the next year. i'm definitely going to want to certain items, especially new things, so i'll have to take that when it comes. but starting possibly in the new year i want to make this change for myself. i really feel like i need to start practicing what i preach and embrace my intense love of vintage clothing again by reviving my own use of vintage. we'll see how it goes. cheers, la belle oiselle!

thanks for reading!

  1. so funny that you posted this...literally this morning while trying to figure out an outfit- I felt like I needed to do a major closet purge! I think it's going to be one of my goals on an upcoming day off for the holidays...CLEAN MY CLOSET OUT. nothing is worse than feeling cramped and messy.
