in the sun

this saturday after brunch we headed back out to birds hill park to bask in the sunshine that has been intermittent as of late. next time, hopefully we'll bring something other than hot dogs? also, no snow would be a plus. nevertheless we enjoyed ourselves -- i love these guys. (ps. the last photo is me making fun of how my friend holds hot dogs.)

what did everyone get up to this weekend??

prairieview

on sunday i had a photo class at prairieview with my photography club. we went out for a few minutes to take some pictures around the school, and these were a few of my favourites. the class was pretty helpful, giving me a few ideas of cool shoots i'd like to try. i've said it before and i'll say it again: i love this area of the city!  i'll be back there with the crew in two weeks time on another photo adventure (unless this new snow hasn't let up), and i can't wait   :) what did everyone get up to this weekend?

weekend update

here are a few shots i took during a walk around my neighbourhood last week! can someone tell me what the little squiggle might be on my lense? i tried cleaning it off with no luck! this weekend was jam packed -- i went to a social, went on a thrifting spree with my friend, went out dancing and participated in the first practice for our 50 and 60s cover band. basically had the time of my life, no lie. what did everyone else get up to?

out in the woods

this past weekend i got my friends out to birds hill park to roast some weenies and drink some beer. it was so awesome! they all made fun of me for taking so many pictures, but i think they secretly loved it :) i was in charge of pictures and music, but i also helped push the car out of a rut and chop some wood. no big deal, guys! I wish i knew how to make animated gifs, cause then i would be posting one of me chopping a piece like a pro then doing a victory dance. i hope that we go out more often now... i don't know why we haven't done it before!

sketching at MAKE

this saturday i checked out the current exhibit at my local coffee shop MAKE, entitled "sketch". the drawings themselves were pretty interesting, but i also enjoyed the DIY sketch tables and the fact that each drawing was mounted with the exact medium that was used to make it. it really let you imagine the artist hard at work. stopping in, patrons were friendly and smiley, and i even saw an old friend from high school with her mother and had a chat. it was a happy saturday, for sure!

into the park

this weekend was another meetup with my photography group, set in assiniboine park. it was a little nippy, but i managed to get some pretty cool shots! i'm looking forward to spring so i can bask in the flowers at the leo mol sculpture garden. i was there once this past summer for the first time and loved every minute. stay tuned on wednesday for some shots from inside the conservatory, which basically feels like you are in a jungle. have a great monday everyone! and remember, 4-day weekend coming up! :)

weekender

1 - solace
2 - canadian pride - a couple of my faves
3, 4, 5 - beautiful thrift store find (nearly new shop on portage av) on saturday. a slip to be worn over and under. can't wait. $5
6 - legendary tape made by my pa that i was recently able to rescue from my car tape deck with a pair of needlenose pliers. (just in time, as my car has been written off) my sisters and i will rave about and admire this mix until our dying days

i hope everyone had a lovely weekend! i got to see my family and friends, and to me that is a success. what did everyone get up to?

street life

as i've said time and time again, i have a huge appreciation for street art. my friend contacted me for a colleague who will be teaching a class this week about street art, asking if i would be able to provide some of my pictures for the lesson. how cool is that? i guess i post enough documentation of graffiti/artwork on my blog that she just knew. i've seen some wicked large-scale installations from around the world on the interweb -- they're so whimsical, fun and interesting. i wish winnipeg had more cool pieces around the city! i for one think having art all around me makes life a lot more beautiful. here are a few shots i've taken in winnipeg, new york, and germany. i seem to love the colourful stuff :)

darks and brights

i can't say that i took A LOT of pictures this weekend, but i did volunteer at the arrogant worms show on saturday, and i went skating with my friends at the forks as planned! i honestly think i've gotten worse at skating since i was a kid, so that's sort of unfortunate.  i took these photos on my way home from my parents house on sunday night. i'm looking forward to warmer weather as i will be more inclined to walk around (especially at night) and take pictures. i haven't done much photography in the dark, but i'm excited to try!  these photos were taken in the exchange district of the city, one of my fave spots.

hope everyone had a great weekend-- let's hear some highlights!

204 - guest poster on POSTER

some more winnipeg love for everyone! i honestly feel better when i get out of the house to walk around and take pictures. i can't wait until all the snow is gone -- winnipeg will clean itself up, things will bloom, and my pictures will look 10x better. before i forget, i had my first blog post for POSTER on monday! if you haven't seen it yet, check it out here! i can't wait to start getting together my next post for braden and suzy's blog. what shall it be: local makers? fashion? DIY? street style? so many options!

i've been taking it easy lately, and by taking it easy i mean not really working too hard on my etsy shop. i'm trying to decide what i really want to spend my time on, and right now it seems to be blogging, cleaning the house, seeing my family and friends, and catching up on some television. and to be honest, i'm suuuper down with that, at least for right now.

happy wednesday, friends!
