out in the woods

this past weekend i got my friends out to birds hill park to roast some weenies and drink some beer. it was so awesome! they all made fun of me for taking so many pictures, but i think they secretly loved it :) i was in charge of pictures and music, but i also helped push the car out of a rut and chop some wood. no big deal, guys! I wish i knew how to make animated gifs, cause then i would be posting one of me chopping a piece like a pro then doing a victory dance. i hope that we go out more often now... i don't know why we haven't done it before!

sleigh bells ring

we went carolling on sunday night and it was magical! we were invited into several homes and sang and drank and ate cookies. i'm so glad my friend suggested we get the old gang back together to sing a few tunes. we sang walkin in a winter wonderland, silent night, and o come all ye faithful, and at our last stop a really fun guy started beatboxing with the song! i couldn't stop laughing :) when we were done and walking back home he fell in the snow, and we all cracked up. afterwards my friend's mom made us cocoa and gave us nuts and bolts. it was perfect! i love these people.

i'm getting my last minutes gifts done today before going skating with a really fun guy and going to his family's christmas dinner.  hope everyone is having a wonderful time with their loved ones.

xmas review

merry christmas everyone! i had such a terrific time hanging out with my family and friends these past two days. we ate delicious food, had alot of laughs, watched my nephew sit in his new sled and open his presents for the first time, and played a few games. i am the unrelenting champion of winning games the first time i play them, which proved to be true with apples to apples and yahtzee. here are a few pictures of my family (my papa in the orange crown, mama in the blue crown, one sister in the green crown) and framily (friends that are basically family), and a few of us in game mode after everyone else left the party. good times. now, for new years eve! :)

how did everyone celebrate christmas?

festivus - for the rest of us

hello and happy friday!

i am taking a siesta from MUSIC LOVE FRIDAYS (check out my past posts here!) for a special holiday post involving some of my favourite people in the world. but first, i am super excited to be featured on a rad blog called his little lady, written by the nicest gal named TJ. head on over here to check it out! :)

thursday night was ladies' festivus, put on by my housemate/dear friend hla. for those of you not familiar with festivus, first of all, WHO ARE YOU. may i direct your attention to this wikipedia article explaining the miracle of this special holiday? also, do you think our living room looks like a jungle? it is portrayed as such in these photos, but you're just seeing our greenest corner.

our version of festivus is eating a bunch of food in the living room, dressed in pajamas.  e brought a chocolate log from her work (which is a hot commodity over on academy road, believe it or not!), and hla gifted all of us fine ladies with matt & nat "fineries" that she purchased during an intense online sale a few months back. what a terrific woman, non? down below, you will see e describing each chocolate to us, each description which i promptly forgot. in all serious though, i loved having the time to hang out with my sisters and friends and baby nephew to have a few laughs (and oh, there were laughs) :)

The celebration of Festivus begins with the "Airing of Grievances", which takes place immediately after the Festivus dinner has been served. It consists of lashing out at others and the world about how one has been disappointed in the past year.
From the Seinfeld episode:
Frank Costanza: "And at the Festivus dinner, you gather your family around, and tell them all the ways they have disappointed you over the past year!"
Frank Costanza: "The tradition of Festivus begins with the Airing of Grievances. I got a lot of problems with you people! And now, you're gonna hear about it. You, Kruger. My son tells me your company stinks! You couldn't smooth a silk sheet if you had a hot date with a babe...I lost my train of thought." (all of us ladies decided that since we air our personal grievances with one another on a regular basis, this ritual was not necessary at the current time.TRUTH!)

ps. the POP UP is tomorrow! come by and say hi and support winnipeg makers! :)

hallowe'en memories

in commemoration of the upcoming hallowe'en festivities, i thought i'd share these goodies from yesteryear. yep, it seems my sisters and i like to dress up! i'm not even sure if the one of the right is from hallowe'en! we were just silly little girls :) also, i used to wear my socks pulled up like that ALL THE TIME. now where is that picture of us as cowgirls with the duckhunt gun...

brooklyn, oh brooklyn. NYC PART TRES

my favourite place we visted in new york was brooklyn.  i totally thought i was going to dig greenwich village, but brooklyn thrifting and boutiques are so much more affordable and the items are way more wearable.  i really like the vibe you get there, and the street art is bountiful and beautiful. the brownstones helped, too :)  for some reason we had to get off a stop early and by some magic, we stumbled upon a group of men who play weekly in a shady courtyard.  turns out fella on drums was in THE DRIFTERS. it was way cool.

the cruise to end all boat cruises (in my opinion) NYC PART DOS

we stumbled upon a boat cruise after learning the one we planned on was already closed for the day. we were all cranky, tired, and mad at each other -- then we boarded the boat, got some coffees, and we were taken on what seemed like a circle of the whole of new york city.

 it was AMAZING.

even though i froze my ass off, i'm so glad we got to take the cruise! we had some laughs, taking pictures of all these wicked sights.  and seeing ms. liberty, of course, was crazy.  she was radiant.
