HELLO 2013!

HELLO 2013!

my gals and i are crazy. first off, they both wore lace shirts for their new years' outfit, but one was white and one was black. then we posed a bit. yeah, we're pretty fun. :) i thrifted my dress from VV and i'm pretty sure it's donna karen or something? FANCYYYYYY. (sorry for the photos...my friend's house is lacking in the good photography lighting department.)

making resolutions is hard enough without making them public. there's always the feeling that if you stop following through, you will have shown the world your hopes and subsequently, your failures. you know how it goes -- making a few resolutions, then letting them fade by mid to late-january.  it really is the same every year. i have no idea if my resolutions -- or, you know, regular ol' GOALS, will keep up, but i want to talk about them, and i want to TRY.  a few are personal, and a few are sure things, but thinking about all of them makes me feel positive and happy for the future. that is resolutions/goals/dreams are for, don't you think?

i have a few goals in mind for the new year that i want to share, and i'm not even going to include going to the gym a set number of times a week. we all know that probably will not happen. here are a few that i'm thinking on:

1. set up a home studio for ladylikeness thrift & vintage
2. practice self-calming
3. shop for myself only in thrift stores (except for items that involve my nether regions, ...and possible a brand new pair of summer/spring/fall-appropriate ankle booties, but i'm going to wait until those seasons are closer)
4. practice mindfulness
5. continue taking pictures and learning more about my camera

6. talking and actually saying what i mean

what are some of your goals for this beautiful new year?

some thoughts about goals

i'm trying to change how i think about goals and the like. i'll start off by mentioning that i'm a very impatient person. when i have an idea i like to execute it as soon as possible. go all in. this strategy quite often leads to backtracking, redos, and regret. it's the same situation with my long term goals. i'm nowhere near my end goal (opening a real store), but i put myself into a constant state of worry and guilt, like i was supposed to get there yesterday.  i've heard this quote before, but hearing it again in my situation made it ring more true:

"life isn't a race...it's a marathon". that's why it's called a LONG TERM GOAL, y'all!

i don't want to be too focused on the end part without pay attention to what's happening presently.  i should really be revelling in the process of building my career and living my life to an extent that makes me happy. i don't want to miss the next ten years! i've been working on turning off my rush button and recently a weigh has been lifted. i just do what i can each day to piece together my business, rather than fretting that i'm not doing things fast enough. i'm also working on disabling my personal mentality that there IS an end point. a business is in a constant state of change (hopefully improvement!), and if you think realistically, can a blogger/business owner ever feel like she's done? i have to remember that my goals may change over time, and so may my idea of "success". i have to remember that it if it's gonna be good, it's gonna take time.

how do you stay focused on your long term goals?

Ladylikeness Thrift & Vintage - open now!

holy crap, so this has all started! yesterday i finished up the listings for my etsy shop and they have all been published. it took so long to get to this point so i'm feeling pretty great...and exhausted. i've joined up with the community of winnipeg etsy people, and i'm so glad that i have local people to lean on for support. they are also the friendliest bunch! please check out my etsy site Ladylikeness Thrift & Vintage and let me know what you think!
