a few summers back i visited a garage sale near my aunt and uncle's cabin and came upon this gem: Easy to Make Maidens & Cocktails. published in 1965, this hilarious handbook features over 250 delicious drink recipes and a handful of popular retro hors d'oeuvres such as pigs in blankets, idiot's delight (toss noodles and peanut together into a frying pan, adding butter, salt, Accent and heat gently until butter is dissolved, stirring constantly so that ingredients won't burn. drain on paper and serve hot and cold), deviled eggs, and liver and bacon canapes. while i may not be trying out that last snack, the drinks look AMAZING, and i want more than ever to stock my own personal bar. the highlight of the handbook is definitely the illustrations, which are a little risque but totally rad. easily one of my favourite garage sale finds!

take it to the streets/1
as you all well know, i have an intense love of street art. this is only a tiny smattering of the beautiful pictures that i spotted in europe this past winter. some has been defaced by ugly spray paint nonsense, but most is breathtaking. i wish so badly that winnipeg's buildings hosted such amazing images -- i don't see why this isn't a reality. props to spain and portugal for the wide abundance in your cities! which one of these is your favourite?

brain clutter
i've been back for one day, and i'm already behind! my goal has become a lazy one -- to post at least once a week. and honestly, i haven't really been feeling inspired. one of my problems is that i'm not "out there" as much as i used to be, not working on my etsy shop or thrifting, not taking pictures with my canon... ie. not gathering material. that will need to change.
i'm also trying to figure out what kind of blog i want this to be. my favourite blogs fall under the categories of design, fashion and lifestyle, and most of them are very professional-looking and make money. this is very intimidating and it makes me feel kinda shitty about my weaknesses. lists make me feel better:
my first goal is to pick up my camera.
second is to start simple and calm the f down
third is to learn little things to improve
fourth is to not compare my blog to other blogs and myself to other bloggers
fifth is to enjoy it.
please bear with me while i figure out my life (and clean my room).

back home
on the last day of march i flew back home from europe, after travelling around for nearly three months. it was the longest i'd been away from home, and the first time travelling alone. it was thrilling and beautiful and sometimes lonely, but completely amazing. i bought a tonne of vintage clothing during my travels, most of which will be sold at my future shop. i met so many friendly, hilarious people, some of whom i really bonded with, and that i hope to keep in touch with forever. i walked so much, i dare say my feet will never be the same, and my ass still aches just thinking of all the uphill climbs i conquered. i made a concious effort not to be a "nice girl" when i felt uncomfortable with strangers (and got almost too good at "bitch-face"). i found pride in making my way around on my own, and realized when i'm alone and have no one to rely on but myself, i am able.
that was probably the greatest feeling.
i've decided to return to ladylikeness today, exactly one year since my last post. i hadn't thought of coming back to it until i met up with a friend from home in paris on my last week in europe. we got talking about my blog and etsy shop, and it made me realize how much i missed it. when i stopped posting last april i was ready for a break. i was working a full time job, posting thrice a week, participating in a photography club, and running my etsy shop, and i guess my brain was a little burned out. i tend to want to do everything sometimes. for now, i will manage my full time job, a couple posts a week, and planning my future shop. i also hope to participate in some sales again in the near future. it's so fun!
there are a lot of exciting things coming down the line -- glad to be back.

vintage jewels
it was the first beautiful weekend in winnipeg, and i spent most of it in bed! i'm on the mend from a cold, so hopefully i'll be feeling normal again really really soon. i wanna get my bike out, and there are so many things to do this week: band practice, a farewell to my work pal, and our little etsy sale on saturday :)
speaking of the sale, here are some jewels that will be for sale from my shop ladylikeness thrift + vintage!
happy monday, y'all.
