dying for the weekend

this weekend was tiring, to say the least. i think i'm still trying to get myself back in order. i didn't get a lot done blog and shop-wise, but i did manage to dye my sweater! i never really wore this thrifted ralph lauren sweater much when it was white -- too summer-y, and i guess white is not really my colour. now that it's grey, i'm wearing it ALL OF THE TIME. well, since friday. what do you think? i love wearing grey...it's so cozy. i didn't have a big enough pot for the stove top, and i don't have a washer of my own, so i was forced to use a mop bucket full of boiling water to dye this shirt. totally worth it. :) i felt like i was on a roll and so i threw a few things in the bucket (everything that i own that is white aka 3 things) but this one turned out the best. it really depends on the material you're using. i think i may have found a new love, and i'm very tempted to thrift more white things and experiment with dying fabrics. look at me go. happy wednesday, friends.

a year of thrift // 1

here are a couple pieces of vintage i've picked up in the last two glorious weeks of thrifting! we're done the first month of 2013 and i haven't bought any new clothing -- all second hand. i guess i don't find it that hard because i like wearing thrifted things, and i find that i can get 5 things second hand for the same price as 1 thing or a half a thing at the mall. (see ARITZIA...i've never shopped there, and probably never will).

i adore each one of these pieces -- they are forcing me to get rid of other things i have so i can make room for the new-old things i've collected. how crazy does my face look??? dat's the door to my studio, and my gigantic bon iver tote from the show in new york city. it doesn't look that gigantic, but try judging the big red spot by the size of my head. now, off to work i go! talk later, okay?

stay home club

i made it through my first official meeting of stay home club this weekend, but i kind of completely dissed the rules -- check out this page to see what the heck i'm talking about! i really dig the patches and i'm planning on getting one for my denim jacket. the point of my self-appointed stay home club is to stay home and work on the blog and the shop and not spend money on frivolities (booze).   unfortunately i went out quite a bit this weekend, but i only spent money on glorious vintage! oh, and a cup of coffee. at least i only spent $14 on vintage for myself, and the rest is going to my etsy store...that's allowed, right? now i just need four cats.

i saw hannah georgas with my friend rachelle on saturday night, using complimentary tickets from volunteering, hence the photos up top. the belle game opened up and they were pretty great too! hannah's a gem and i danced on my spot the whole time.

i also watched melancholia, which was not so great for me. TOO SAD. the cinematography was beautiful. though.

what did you all get up to this weekend?
enjoy monday, people of earth!

north dakota

PRESS PLAY :)

hello, all! ma girls and i did a little road trippy to grand forks and who knew -- they're fantastic thrifters! we found a bunch of great stuff for my shop and had what should be an illegal amount of laughs. even with all the road trips my family did down to north dakota when i was a kid, i'd never been "downtown" before, and we'd never stopped at any thrift shops. The Salvation Army was chock full of amazing stuff, and alot of it was half-off!  every north dakotan was so friendly :)

thriftin, cookin, workin, freezin.

hello world!  the title of this post explains generally what i've been up to lately.  the freak-warm temperatures for winnipeg in january are gone and its cold again :(  and i still have to get my butt out of bed early in the morning to get to work.  i had a super good day thrifting today. alot of good finds, and it was 1/2 off!  there's a cool new music festival going on in a few weeks in winnipeg called BIG FUN, which i'm volunteering for, and i'm suuuper pumped for that.  just tryin to hang with my friends as much as possible lately, and daydream about my future shop.

happy monday!
