i live quite close to my favourite area of winnipeg: osborne village. on the main strip of osborne you will find a wide assortment of boutiques, tattoo parlours, hair salons, restaurants, pubs and dance clubs. tonnes of people live in the area as well. i love all the murals and street art on brick exteriors, seeing in-store performances music trader (a popular music store), and doing karaoke down in the cavern. the village is very much a congregation place for winnipeggers...it's also where many of us live. we pass through on the way to work or school, we stop for coffee and on weekends we come down to have a few drinks and a good time.
i grew up in an area 30 minutes from downtown by bus. and it was BORING there. my older sisters and i would take the 2 buses to osborne and visit a bead store that used to be in the centre of the village. i believe the newest tenants in that store sell delicious crepes. i worked at the shops next door called hush and shout last spring and summer, and it was a blast. i love seeing and talking to people :)
maybe that's why i love osborne village so much -- it's full of fun things to do and eat and see and buy, and it's made up of fun, friendly people. i headed down there today to grab a few necessities from the drugstore, and stopped to wander in some shops and say hello to my girls at hush and shout.
when ya come to winnipeg, y'all definitely have to check it out.

i see people practising hoola-hooping sometimes.
a vietnamise restaurant called viann's and the iconic movie village were recently torn down to make way for an expanded shoppers drug mart. many are up-in-arms, as you can see.
