MUSIC LOVE FRIDAYS // BAHAMAS // 15

another busy weekend coming up, friends! i'm looking forward to it, as i'll be able to see my alot of my girls a bunch and get started on my studio!  i'm not crazy sure which room i'm getting yet, but i'm pretty sure it will be the one in the pictures below. it is actually a dining room, which explains the chandelier. man, do i have some painting to do! :) i'm thinking i'll share the room transformation on the blog -- cause who doesn't love some before and after shots? this MUSIC LOVE FRIDAY is bahamas. i have to listen to this song on headphones cause my roomie has heard it too many times on cbc radio. bahamas may not seem like the nicest dude, but man, does he know how to make dem songs. happy weekend, everyone. enjoy y'allselves!

MUSIC LOVE FRIDAYS // MO KENNEY // 14

these last few weeks have been super confusing and busy! i can't keep the days straight, and it feels like friday keeps coming so quickly (please let this happen forever, life!) vis a vis, it seems like i keep blogging MUSIC LOVE FRIDAYS every five minutes! which is fine, cause i love it.

my roomie/bestie introduced this Canadian lady to me a couple months ago, and this song still gets me! carnivore is also a beaut. mo is from nova scotia, where i would one day like to visit. take a listen:

i hope everyone has a wonderful weekend full of self-discovery, fun, and a whole lot of laughs :)

MUSIC LOVE FRIDAY // HANNAH GEORGAS // 13

i'd never heard hannah georgas' music before, but i always thought her name was pretty. i was driving in my car one day and i had to shazam this song. i've been listening to her albums all day on her website, and they are still going strong. this lady is coming to town in january, and there is a very very good chance that i will check her out :)

this weekend is full of family dinners, etsy updating, and, unfortunately, getting the tire fixed on my car. ouch!

HAPPY MUSIC LOVE FRIDAY!

great bloomers

i hadn't realized i was going to see a band on monday night until i was reminded monday mid-morning. it was great bloomers playing with wool on wolves at le garage in st. boniface. wow, i really went LINK-CRAZY right there! now, we've seen great bloomers in our fine city a number of times, and we always dance up a storm and support the boys. this time i laid back and supported them but taking a bunch of pictures and talking about them here (with a handful of slight dance moves thrown in for good measure, of course). we were really all quite tired, so we could not fully dance our faces off. and last night i attended another show: the wooden sky at the west end cultural centre, which is actually where i volunteer sometimes!  i posted a live video of wooden sky here, and you best believe i tore it up during north dakota last night! best.

happy hump day, y'all! it's all downhill from here.

MUSIC LOVE FRIDAYS // DAN GRIFFIN // 9

SO. we know about canadian dan griffin through a little band called the arkells in which he played the keys...up until a a little while back, when he left to go to law school! the point of this whole thing is that this gentleman has a phenomenal self-titled solo project, and a hilarious twitter account. you should probably check out everythang. here are a few of our faves!

amelia at the park

a spur-the-moment finding that newfoundlander amelia curran was playing at the park theatre on south osborne turned into a night out for my friend and i. i knew he'd seen her in a small venue called the ship when he was on his bike across canada trip, and he had really dug her.  she has such a beautiful distinct voice and an awesome talent for songwriting. i took a few of her opener and of the lady herself. i know for a fact my friend was swoooooning :) with very very good reason!

MUSIC LOVE FRIDAYS // a poem about everything // 7

"a poem about everything" is how gregory alan isakov described a song of his called mercury. really, it explains all of his music.

my roommate friend gave me his album The Empty Northern Hemisphere a year or more back, and i had put it on my ipod without much of a thought. when i got around to giving it a listen a few weeks later, i was mesmerized.  this man has such a beautiful, truthful voice, and such depth in his lyrics. isakov knows something only a few other do... how to show aspects of life through song without being blatant. when i'm listening to him i feel like i'm the only one who has heard these songs --  i just imagine myself driving on a dark country road, thinkin' about living.

might i add he is quite an attractive chap? oy.

his music has been featured in numerous television shows and you might recognize big black car from the holiday mcdonalds commercial. as much as i don't want to admit it, the song fits the commercial really well. when i hear it i think about the twinkle lights in the ad and the twinkle lights on my stairs. i really love the peacefulness of the song and the image of little glowing lights on hardwood. the feeling only grows now that it's getting to be the holidays again. give these a listen... and a listen and a listen:

mmmhot

i've been so busy lately! volunteering, working after work, it's been kinda crazy.
i don't know if you know, but i'm a big fan of hanson. not a travel-to-150-shows-and-go-into-debt kind of big fan, but i really appreciate their music.  and yes, they had way more albums after the song Mmmbop, which was wayyyy better. trust me.
last september just before i moved out, my sisters and i took a roadtrip to a small city called regina, saskatchewan to see none other than HANSON in concert. i have liked hanson ever since i was a little girl, so it was kind of awesome to jam along to all of their tunes!  they have also gotten a lot better looking, and alot more married and fatherish.  cause they're all dads.  a few weeks ago they  came to winnipeg and my sister and i saw them AGAIN.  this time, i touched taylor's hand, zac gave me his drumstick, and i got him to sign it and got a picture with him!  obviously, i felt a bit crazy for wanting to touch taylor's hand, but it was there to be touched so i went for it.  i was pretty pumped.  here are a few snaps from good ol' regina:
